CVE-2024-40890

Zyxel DSL CPE Devices

Multiple Zyxel DSL CPE devices contain a post-authentication command injection vulnerability in the CGI program that could allow an authenticated attacker to execute OS commands via a crafted HTTP request.

Exploitation status

  • CISA has confirmed this is being exploited in the wild. That is an observation of real attacks, not a prediction.
  • US federal civilian agencies are required to remediate it by 2025-03-04. That deadline does not bind private companies, but it is a reasonable benchmark for how urgently CISA views it.

Required action

The impacted product could be end-of-life (EoL) and/or end-of-service (EoS). Users should discontinue product utilization if a current mitigation is unavailable.

CISA’s wording, unedited.
