OpenAI has just confirmed that it's rolling out ChatGPT Work capabilities directly into regular Chat, while also combining usage allowances across ChatGPT and Codex.
In an email seen by BleepingComputer, OpenAI noted that it will test a combined experience for Chat and Work tabs in the coming weeks, initially with a small group of users.
If you're selected for the test, you'll be able to move from ordinary conversations to more complex tasks without switching modes.
"This will enable you to move from exploring an idea to having ChatGPT carry it through, all in one place," OpenAI explained.
"You can bring in your files and plugins and ask ChatGPT to build a website, create a presentation, or do things for you on the web, while reviewing and guiding its work."
The combined experience will initially be tested with a small group of users before OpenAI expands it to more people.
It is worth noting that Codex will remain a separate experience in the ChatGPT desktop app.
ChatGPT and Codex will share the same usage allowance
There's another significant change coming to Pro subscriptions. OpenAI is preparing to unify usage across ChatGPT and Codex, meaning both services will draw from the same allowance.
"Your use of ChatGPT and Codex will draw from the same allowance," OpenAI noted in the email.
However, not every conversation will consume that allowance. OpenAI says Unlimited Instant is included in the subscription and won't count towards the shared usage limit.
More advanced models and complex tasks will consume more of your allowance, depending on the work involved.
You'll also be able to check your combined remaining usage and reset times under Settings > Usage:
If you run out, you can wait for the allowance to reset, upgrade your subscription, or purchase credits for eligible features.
Separately, OpenAI has already doubled Work and Codex allowances for its Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 subscriptions, effective October 29.
