Odoo development: Custom Odoo modulesthat survive the next upgrade.

When standard Odoo and Studio stop short, our developers write small, tested modules that extend Odoo instead of rewriting it.

Where things usually stand

Standard Odoo gets you most of the way. Then there is the quotation layout your customers expect, the approval rule your finance team insists on, or the calculation that is the whole reason your business is profitable.

The usual fix is code that overrides core Odoo behaviour. It works until the next upgrade, when it breaks and the original developer is gone.

You want the gap closed with as little code as possible, written so that another developer can read it and an upgrade doesn't turn into a rebuild.

What's included

  • Studio first, code second

If a field, view or automation can be done in Odoo Studio or standard settings, we do it there and tell you.

  • Custom modules

New models, fields, workflows and wizards packaged as separate modules, never edits to Odoo's own code.

  • Reports and documents

Quotations, invoices, delivery slips and management reports laid out the way your customers and managers expect.

  • Automations and scheduled actions

Rules that create, update or notify on their own, with logging so you can see what ran.

  • Website and portal changes

Customer portal pages, website forms and eCommerce tweaks that stay inside Odoo's theming system.

  • Tests and code review

Automated tests for business logic and a second developer's review before anything reaches your live database.

  • Your repository

Source code in a Git repository you own, with a short note per module on what it does and why.

How it runs

Timings are typical for a small or mid-sized rollout. Your written plan sets the real dates.

  1. 1

    Requirement and Studio check

    Day 1–2

We write the requirement back to you in plain words and check whether configuration or Studio already solves it.

  2. 2

    Technical design and quote

    Days 2–4

Which models change, which screens, how it behaves on upgrade, and a fixed price.

  3. 3

    Build in staging

    1–3 weeks

Development on a copy of your database, with tests, on Odoo.sh staging or your own test server.

  4. 4

    Your acceptance test

You try it with real records. We fix what doesn't match the agreed requirement.

  5. 5

    Release and handover

Deployment to production at a quiet time, plus the module note and repository access.

What it costs

What the starting price covers

One small change such as a few new fields with their views, one custom report or one automated action, with tests and the source code.

Founding-client price in US dollars. The free assessment ends in a fixed written quote; Odoo licences, where you need them, are paid to Odoo separately.

Custom development: questions

How much does Odoo customization cost?

Small changes, such as new fields with their views, a reworked quotation layout or one automation, start at $500. A module with its own screens and logic is more often $1,500 to $5,000, and a larger extension such as a custom costing engine or industry workflow can run higher. Every piece of work gets a fixed quote after we've read the requirement.

Can you customize Odoo Online?

Only partly. Odoo Online, Odoo's standard cloud, does not allow custom Python modules; changes there are limited to configuration and Odoo Studio. Custom modules need Odoo.sh (Odoo's platform for Enterprise customers who need code) or a self-hosted server. If a requirement needs code, we tell you before you commit, along with the cost of moving to Odoo.sh.

Who owns the code you write?

You do, once the work is paid for. It sits in a Git repository under your account, and nothing in it is locked to us. Custom modules that build on Enterprise apps still need an Enterprise subscription to run, because they depend on Odoo's Enterprise code.

Will our customisations break when Odoo upgrades?

Some upgrade work is normal for any custom module, because Odoo changes its internals between major versions. We keep that cost low by extending Odoo rather than overriding it, keeping modules small, and writing tests that show quickly what changed. Odoo's upgrade service covers standard modules on Enterprise; custom code is upgraded by us or whoever maintains it.

Which Odoo versions do you develop for?

Odoo 18, 19 and 20, the versions still in Odoo's standard support, on both Enterprise and Community. On older versions, including Odoo 17, whose standard support ended in September 2026, we maintain existing modules while we plan an upgrade, but we'd advise against new development there.

Can you take over modules another developer wrote?

Yes. We start with a short code review that tells you what each module does, what is risky and what would need rewriting on the next upgrade. If the code is in poor shape, our Odoo Rescue service covers a fuller audit.
