What we hear, and how Odoo answers it
“The system says we have it. The shelf says we don't.”
Stock is counted in one place, sold from another and adjusted at month-end, so nobody trusts the figure when a customer asks.
One live stock figure
Odoo Inventory tracks every move between warehouses, locations and production, with lots or serial numbers where you need them. Odoo Barcode lets the warehouse receive, pick and count by scanning.
Inventory
Barcode
“We don't really know what each product costs us.”
Material prices move, scrap isn't recorded and labour is a guess, so margins are worked out after the fact, if at all.
Real product costs
Odoo Manufacturing consumes components from bills of materials as you build, records scrap and work-centre time, and posts the value to Odoo Accounting, so cost and margin come from what actually happened.
Manufacturing
Accounting
“We find out we're short of a part when the job is already late.”
Purchasing runs on memory and email, with no link between what's been sold and what needs ordering.
Purchasing that follows demand
Reorder rules and make-to-order routes raise purchase orders and manufacturing orders from confirmed sales, so shortages show up before the job starts.
Purchase
Sales
Manufacturing
“Quality problems come back to us from the customer.”
Checks happen, but on paper. When something fails, there's no record of which batch, which supplier or what was done about it.
Quality checks with a history
Odoo Quality puts control points at receipt, on the line and before dispatch, and links every failure to the lot, supplier and corrective action.
Quality
“A machine breaks down and the whole week slips.”
Maintenance is reactive, and nobody can see planned downtime when promising delivery dates.
Planned maintenance and controlled changes
Odoo Maintenance schedules preventive work on equipment, and Odoo PLM puts engineering changes to products and bills of materials through approval before they reach production.

A sensible first system for this kind of business. Open it in the picker to add or remove apps and see the estimate change.
Sales
Turns a deal into a quotation and an order, with your price lists and discount rules.
Inventory
Knows what is in stock, where it sits and what to reorder, across one or many warehouses.
Purchase
Raises purchase orders from reorder rules, tracks supplier deliveries and matches their bills.
Manufacturing
Plans production from bills of materials and routings, and consumes components as you build.
Accounting
Full double-entry books: bank reconciliation, VAT returns, budgets and financial reports.
Barcode
Lets warehouse staff receive, pick and count stock by scanning, from a phone or scanner.
Good to know before you start
Quality, PLM, Barcode, full Accounting and the shop-floor tablet view are Enterprise apps. A manufacturer on Odoo Community can run Manufacturing, Inventory, Purchase and Invoicing, and we tell you in the assessment which gaps would matter to you.
Distributors without production usually start with Sales, Purchase, Inventory and Accounting, and add Manufacturing later if they begin kitting or assembling.
Odoo supports subcontracted manufacturing, landed costs on imported goods and dropshipping as standard; we check each against your actual flow rather than assuming it fits.
VAT and e-invoicing rules, such as ZATCA in Saudi Arabia or Making Tax Digital in the UK, can be configured with Odoo's localisation modules. We confirm your country's requirements in the assessment.
Odoo for manufacturing & distribution: questions
Is Odoo good enough for a manufacturer?
For small and mid-sized discrete manufacturers, usually yes: bills of materials, routings, work centres, make-to-order, subcontracting, quality and maintenance are all standard. It's a weaker fit for heavily regulated process industries that need validated batch records or advanced finite scheduling across many plants, and we'll say so if that's you.
How long does an Odoo manufacturing implementation take?
As an estimate, a small manufacturer on Sales, Inventory, Purchase, Manufacturing and Accounting typically goes live in 8 to 12 weeks. Most of that time goes into getting bills of materials, routings and opening stock right, which only your team can confirm.
Can Odoo handle lots, serial numbers and expiry dates?
Yes. Odoo Inventory tracks products by lot or serial number, with expiry dates where needed, and traces each lot from the supplier receipt through production to the customer delivery.
Can we keep our barcode scanners?
Usually. Odoo Barcode works with most USB and Bluetooth scanners that act as a keyboard, and with Android devices that have a built-in scanner. We test your model during the project.
How do we get our bills of materials into Odoo?
Usually from spreadsheets or your current system's export. We give you an import template, load a trial set, and have your production lead check costed results on a few products before importing the rest.
